NoA Speaks: Michael Shannon – Superman’s General Zod
First printed at www.movingpicturesnetwork.com
It’s official, British actor and now America’s most superfluously-named superhero, Henry Cavill, has his lady love Lois Lane (Amy Adams) and his arch nemesis General Zod.
The end of the alphabet villain will be portrayed by the powerfully gifted Michael Shannon, an Oscar-nominee for “Revolutionary Road” who blast onto the scene with “Shotgun Stories” and has been belting it out each week on “Boardwalk Empire.”
Although Shannon has been primarily positioned in supporting roles to date, his name now seems set for a bigger spot on the marquee, which no doubt brings a smile to the face of Sony Pictures Classics, distributors of Sundance-flick “Take Shelter,” starring Shannon as a father who builds a bomb shelter for his family while losing control of reality.
With more than fifty credits to his name, chances are you’ve seen his work already. Somehow, Shannon still seems like a star on the rise. In a fight between Cavill and Shannon, we’d take Shannon every time, but as Superman vs. Zod, I guess we’ll have to side with the superhero.
