NoA Link: Video interview with Lynn Hershman Leeson, "!Women Art Revolution"

In the video link below, director Lynn Hershman Leeson and co-producer Alexandra Chowaniec discuss the social importance of women artists in “!Women Art Revolution.”
The film tackles the heavy social issue of the female presence in art through 40 years of footage shot by Hershman Leeson. She opens up about what it was like collecting decades’ worth of footage dating back to 1968, why she was unaware that she would be making the film until six years ago, what she thinks about the public’s perception of women artists nowadays, and why the film challenges “historicalization” of art.
Hershman Leeson goes on to share why U.C. Berkeley’s Cal Arts program was a significant stepping stone for her career as an artist and her reasoning for initially not wanting to include her own pieces in the film— of course, she also discusses her muse, Oscar-winning actress Tilda Swinton in her films.
