NoA INSPIRATION 2: MILLET to VAN GOGH
In NoA Inspiration 1 we looked at the effect of Jean-Francois Millet's "Angelus" on Salvador Dali. Millet was a much bigger influence on the career of Vincent Van Gogh, having been a direct instructor of his now much more famous disciple. Millet influenced a LOT of pieces later created by Van Gogh, and influenced the subject matter of Van Gogh's work immensely. Take a look below at just how taken Vincent was with Millet's "The Sower."

Millet, The Sower, 1850 Van Gogh, The Sower, 1888

Vincent's top color version of The Sower was only completed after rigorous drawings were first executed as studies of the work.
While his various peasant studies and "The Potato Eaters" were also derivative of the work of Millet, Vincent must have felt like he found some success with the sower subject, experimenting with it further in glorious fashion in "The Sower with the Setting Sun" (below).
I've left this one a little larger, in appreciation of the skill of this master brush-man.
