The NoA goes aural due to an unforseen obsession with WOLVES!
THE NATION SAYS "WOLF-MUSIC WHAT????":
While the Nation of Artists is focused on the visual arts, we couldn't help notice that four tracks on our favorite playlist featured some reference to the ancestor of all domestic dogs, canis lupis, so... we decided we should share them with you.
Okay, sure, WolfMother is a great Aussie band, but they don't sing songs with wolf in the title! Then there's Wolf Parade, Wolf Eyes, Tiger Bear Wolf, and we're sure a whole lot more!!!
On the other hand, the following songs have hit our radar, appearing by stealth, and imposed a true wolfish hue to the NoA's listening world.
Songs (in order of how much we like them):
Phosphorescent's Wolves audio here
Sufjan Stevens' Wolverine video here
TV on the Radio's Wolf Like Me (great live version - video from Late Night with David Letterman)
Sea Wolf's You're a Wolf video here
Le Loup's We Are Gods! We Are Wolves! audio here
Bon Iver's The Wolves- Act I & II video here
Los Lobos's Will the Wolf Survive? audio here
Steppenwolf's Chicken Wolf audio here
and, of course, Duran Duran's Hungry Like a Wolf video here
In other wolf-related news:
Sundance Film Festival has slated the premiere of Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman's drama "HOWL" - a film featuring James Franco, Mary-Louise Parker, Jon Hamm, Jeff Daniels and others, centered on the obscenity trial faced by Allen Ginsberg after publication of his career-defining poem, Howl. For the entire poem, check it out at the Poetry Foundation. Here are the first few lines:
For those of you in the Greater Los Angeles area, you can volunteer to work with wolves and wolfdogs, or participate in a sunset hike with wolves with Teo Alfero and Wolf Connection - check out http://www.wolfconnection.org/events
Of course, there's also the NRDC, who do great work on a number of climate and species related issues - for more information, see http://www.nrdc.org/wildlife/habitat/esa/rockies02.asp
Enjoy the music, the movie, the words! We've got more art just after the jump!

- I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked,
- dragging themselves through the negro streets at dawn looking for an angry fix;
- Angel-headed hipsters burning for the ancient heavenly connection
- to the starry dynamo in the machinery of night.
