ALL DRESSED UP: John Petrey @ the Gallery of Functional Art
The NoA pays a visit to COSTUME PARTY by JOHN PETREY
The Gallery of Functional Art may have named John Petrey's show "Costume Party" but the title seems to belittle a little the conceptual originality and artistic ingenuity on display with Petrey's A+ aesthetics. The first class craftsmanship is reminiscent of other mindful metal workers whom the GFA has proffered for public viewing in recent years (most notably David Buckingham and Gordon Chandler), and the beauty of the work is only made more enthralling by close-up inspection of the materials labored (see pics below). Kudos to the artist.
Mention must also be made of the gallery store at GFA, one of the premiere destinations for original gifts in the greater Los Angeles area.
